Hair Rescue™ Treatment Offers More Affordable and Non-Surgical Option for Restoring Hair

Hair loss can be a thing of the past thanks to an injection that can help further prevent and even reverse hair loss. Dr. Gary Hitzig is a leading hair restoration specialist and pioneer of the ACell / platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections, now called Hair Rescue™ injections. He has spent years researching and proving that only when the wound healing powder ACell MatriStem MicroMatrix is combined with PRP, in the proprietary formulation that he has developed over the course of his thorough research and clinical studies, it can help to both prevent and regenerate hair in men and women experiencing genetic hair loss – all without surgery.

Dr. Hitzig discovered that if the MatriStem powder is dissolved in a specialized blood serum rich in the patient’s adult stem cells and injected into the scalp, his proprietary combination acts like a hair growth accelerator. The Hair Rescue™ injection treatment is now available at Prasad Cosmetic Surgery and Medi-Spa through its newly opened Hair Rescue and Restoration™ center.

“Hair Rescue injections finally give men and women a non-surgical option for both preserving and restoring hair by reactivating genetically faulty scalp stem cells,” said Dr. Hitzig. “For those in the early to moderate stages of hair loss, this revolutionary, proprietary injectable combination of ACell and PRP can help prevent further hair loss and help restore a patient’s hair.”

Dr. Hitzig and partner, Dr. Amiya Prasad have been seeing patients from all around the world ever since Hitzig’s work with ACell and PRP gained world-wide attention in the field of hair restoration. Many patients see improvement in hair volume in as early as three weeks to six months following Hair Rescue™ injections in their scalp and in two years, not one patient has needed repeat injections, making this a much more affordable option for improving hair loss.

Hair Restoration Pioneer Brings ACell and New Hydr-ACell Solution to Norway Study

Gary Hitzig, M.D., a leading U.S. hair restoration researcher and surgeon unveils new topical ACell solution and compares effectiveness of ACell/PRP injections for hair loss compared to traditional FUE hair transplant in Oslo, Norway.

NEW YORK, NY – - Gary Hitzig, M.D., a leading U.S. hair restoration specialist and pioneer of the ACell / platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections, was invited by the Poseidon Hair Clinic (sanctioned by the Norwegian government) in Oslo, Norway to participate in an international study on ACell Matristem and its ability to regenerate hair and improve wound healing. Dr. Hitzig, who practices at Prasad Cosmetic Surgery in New York City and Long Island, has been sought after by many researchers to expand on his groundbreaking ACell research.

In late August, Dr. Hitzig began an ACell study with the Poseidon Hair Clinic, an international hair restoration group with offices throughout Europe. The purpose of the study is to determine the effectiveness of ACell/PRP injections for hair loss compared to the traditional follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant. Patients who received the ACell/PRP injections and patients who had an FUE hair transplant will be evaluated every three months for a year to determine differences in donor area hair re-growth, healing and hair duplication in the recipient areas.

As part of the study, Dr. Hitzig introduced Hydr-ACell, a new aqueous based solution developed by Hitzig and cosmetic surgeon Dr. Amiya Prasad. Hydr-ACell offers a more effective means to deliver topical ACell to wounds and transplanted follicular unit grafts. The unique application process allows doctors to evenly apply ACell to the open FUE wounds and protect FUE grafts in scar tissue. As part of this study, Hydr-ACell will also be studied for its topical value in healing.

Dr. Hitzig’s trip to Norway was funded by the Scandinavian Clinics to help further the research needed to expand ACell use in Europe, which is currently only available in the United States. The study was supervised and regulated by the Norwegian Government’s medical board.

“The purpose of this study in Norway was to allow the doctors at the Poseidon Hair Clinic and the Norwegian medical board to personally see the results of using ACell/ PRP to regenerate hair,” said Dr. Hitzig. “I’ve been researching ACell as a wound healing and hair restoration application for several years and have seen impressive results that have gained a lot of attention from hair restoration specialists from around the world. It was a pleasure to bring this research to Norway and work with this group of talented doctors.”

Last spring, Dr. Hitzig also trained doctors at The Private Clinic, the largest U.K. cosmetic practice, in the use of ACell-PRP injections. This was the first medical practice outside of the U.S. to receive training in the use of ACell in hair restoration.

MatriStem MicroMatrix, a product of regenerative medicine innovator, ACell, Inc., is a wound healing powder that promotes healing and tissue growth. Dr. Hitzig has spent years researching and proving that when MatriStem MicroMatrix is combined with PRP, it can help to both prevent and regenerate hair in men and women experiencing genetic hair loss.

Hitzig discovered that if you dissolve the MatriStem powder in a specialized blood serum rich in the patient’s adult stem cells and inject it into the scalp, the combination acts like a hair growth accelerator. Many hair transplant patients experienced significant hair re-growth sooner and the wound where donor hair had been taken and transplanted was completely healed with little or no signs of a scarring.

Stress May Lead to Hair Loss in Women

Turns out that stress and bad habits such as smoking, drinking and even tanning could contribute to hair loss, especially in women, according to preliminary findings from new research.

Reported on health website WebMD on September 23, two new studies found that women’s hair follicles are particularly vulnerable to the wear and tear of a stressful lifestyle. One study found that women who had suffered the stress of a divorce or death of a spouse were at the highest risk of losing their hair at the midline, meaning a widening of the parting in the middle of the scalp, noted WebMD.

Men can chalk balding mostly up to genetic luck of the draw, although smoking, alcohol consumption, daily stress, and sun exposure contribute as well, according to the research.

While you can take preventative measures such as wearing a hat in the sun, quitting smoking, and reducing your alcohol consumption, researchers add that adopting healthier lifestyle choices could possibly help your hair grow back.

“Part of it is to manage what you can,” said New York City dermatologist Doris Day (who wasn’t involved in the study) in an interview with WebMD. “The sooner you address it, the better your chances of having recovery.”

The studies were presented at the 2011 annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgery in Denver, Colorado, September 23-27.

Prior research has also linked stem cells to balding, finding that some stem cells in the scalp are incapable of developing into the type of cells that make follicles. The discovery, published earlier this year in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, could give hope to men and women with hair loss, said the researchers in a release.
